What do you want to be when you grow up? It’s a question we’ve all heard before, and one that as adults, many of us are still asking ourselves. Aside from the doctors, firefighters, teachers and rock stars typically chosen, kids today can add web developer to the list.
Named one of the best jobs to have in 2012 by the Wall Street Journal, there’s never been a better time than now to be a developer. Considering that everything and anything is going digital these days, it’s all the more important for people to understand not just how to use technology, but how it works as well. Should we put just as much importance on learning the language of computers as we do any other spoken language? Absolutely.
With such easy and affordable methods of instruction available, there’s no reason kids can’t learn about programming well before they reach high school – especially if they’re already spending their time playing with apps and surfing the web. Schools looking to give students a well-rounded education and a real advantage in life would be wise to introduce computer programming into their curriculums.
Working at Nurun, I’m constantly amazed by the incredible things my co-workers are able to create with a bit – or a lot – of code. It’s easy to forget as we scroll through fantastic websites and apps, but none of it would be possible without the web developers that can turn strings of code into amazing digital experiences.
