Digital for Real Life

Chris Anderson’s theory that the web is dead seems very, very flawed and based on a false premise.  That being out front…

I totally see what you are saying Jean about computers and mobile devices.  ”Computers” are everywhere now, not just within the construct of a “PC”.  The main problem I see is the construction of new things like apps, programs, etc.  Other devices that are not a desktop workstation or laptop computer are not capable at this point of creating apps for themselves.  I can not create an app for the iPad on the iPad, or on the Kindle Fire for the Kindle Fire.  I have heard of a few minor exceptions at this point, but even those can not boast of creating apps like the Facebook app, the Twitter app, Instagram, Angry Birds and all of the other top apps on iOS/Android/Windows devices.

I think you called it though.  Usage of those services will be transported to other devices that serve as better gateways to those different types of content.  A TV or projector works great for watching TV Shows and Movies where a laptop is small and does not have good audio.  A tablet computer is lightweight and easier to watch TV Shows and Movies on the go, whereas a laptop is big and cumbersome.

It’ll be interesting to see where all of this leads us. :)

Thank you Tanner, I aggree with you, there are some very professional needs (developing an app beeing obviously one) that will still need a computer. As you point it, step by step, the computer in the home office is going to lose its pertinence…
